Also incoming is a new album by Archive, for whom we have long proselyted round here, despite the fact that approximately no one in the UK has heard of 'em.
In a nutshell, Archive set sail in the mid-1990s in a moody, cinematic, trip-hop vein, though even then they were too experimental, eclectic and downright perverse ever to make it on the dinner party circuit. Their debut album Londinium was a sublime melange of downtempo beats, melancholic rap and climactic, ah, climaxes. Thereafter, the band found themselves mysteriously banished to continental Europe where they are now huge. There's been a swerve into epic, Floyd-style electro-symphonics but much of their stuff is still underpinned by furious breakbeats and motorik, kraut-style interludes. I think they've played in the UK twice in the last decade. Mojo dishes out 4 stars for their new album, 'With Us Til You're Dead', the first to be released in the UK for years.
Below, the haunting first single from 1996 and Again, from the 2002 album 'You All Look The Same to Me', in its full, 16 minute glory. After that, new single Violently. More here.
