What we were hoping to bring you today was an elaborate monologue on the heroic new New Model Army album, a signed copy of which arrived yesterday. We haven't quite got round to completing that. It is, however, an almost upsettingly great record; our early impression is of an English equivalent to Mark Lanegan's Blues Funeral, had that album been recorded by the side of the M6. (The Calthorpe-Gretna Expressway is the UK's Route 66, but that's a whole other book.) Since we haven't quite marshalled our thoughts, here's more from the My Best Fiend album, which grows more potent daily.
