A Winged Victory for the Sullen have a name which sounds suspiciously like the work of a random stoner-rock band-name generator. Yeah, It's a thing. I just got Blind Accumulator. In every other respect they are sublimely gorgeous. Adam Wiltzie and Dustin O'Halloran have a heritage which reaches deep into US experimental/post-rock, but also takes in mainstream movie soundtracks (including Marie Antoinette and The Theory of Everything) and Wiltzie's work with Sparklehorse. Together they create a sombre form of neo-classical ambient-electronica which is infinitely more meaningful than I've just made it sound. In the movie of your life the heroically titled 'We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced For the Earth Had Circled the Sun Yet Another Year' probably soundtracks some sort of melancholic, mid-life montage. As, indeed, it appears to in this unofficial YouTube clip.
